Since 2017, Santa Barbara – Patras Sister Cities has partnered with the Karamandaneio children’s Hospital of Patras on this Medical Initiative
Karamandaneio Children’s Hospital in Patras was established in 1937 after the donation of Ioannis Karamandanis in memory of his son who died of tuberculosis. It is the only children’s-only hospital outside of Athens. Besides the hospital there is a Paidopsychiatric department as well as a Center for Child and Adolescent Psychological health and a Physical and Medical Rehabilitation Center.
Following the 2009 economic crisis all hospitals in Greece were deprived of funds for equipment and every day supplies. After the influx of million of refugees in the country the need for funds became even greater.
The Santa Barbara – Patras Sister Cities Organization holds an annual fundraiser during the Greek Independence day celebration (25th of March) and all proceeds benefit the Karamandaneio Children’s Hospital of Patras.
